Angkor Temples & Tonle Sap Lake - 3 Days

3 days / 2 nights

Day 1

Upon arrival at Siem Reap International Airport, welcomed by guide and transferred to your hotel in the city center for check-in. You will be free for the remainder of the day. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 2

We start a very special and busy day as you will explore some of Angkor’s most beautiful temples.
Explore the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom, the former great capital of the Khmer Empire from late 12th century until its ultimate decline in the 15th century. Get inside the West Gate of Angkor Thom that is undiscovered corner by mass tourist. Continue to the impressive 23 metre high South Gate and head to Bayon temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. Once your guide has shared with you its knowledge and secrets, continue to Baphuon temple and learn more about the gigantic project of conservation it has undergone to get back at its monumental appearance. Then join the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King via Phimeanakas, a small yet wonderful temple hidden in a multi-century old forest behind the terraces.

We continue to visit the fabulous Ta Prohm, one of Angkor’s jewels and overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten city’ feeling. Built in the 12th century, it’s a Buddhist temple dedicated to the mother of King Jayavarman VII.

In the afternoon, we visit the Angkor Wat temple, one of the modern wonders of the world, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its beauty and splendor. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology. Stroll through the intricately carved hallways that show hundreds of fine carvings and discover small shrines still in use today by the local people.

End of your memorable day by experiencing the sunset over the rice fields from the royal crematorium of Pre Rup, a classic view of the Cambodian countryside. Overnight stay in Siem Reap.

Day 3

After breakfast at your hotel, we drive to the countryside village (20km, 30-40 minutes from town) where the ox or water buffalo carts await you for a ride through sandy and muddy fields in the authentic Khmer villages. The adventure will offer you an interaction opportunity with the humble locals to better understand their way of life. Then, we take a leisure boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake to visit floating village and fisherman life. Observe the local lifestyle of the people living on the lake in their floating and stilted home. Get back to your hotel at noon time for checkout, drive to the airport for your departure flight back home
